Artificial Flowers...Friend or Faux?

One of our favourite things about faux flowers is being able to embrace the changing seasons.

As the Autumn nights get darker and the fires are lit our interiors naturally become cosier.

As florists our passion for fresh flowers is unrivalled but we also appreciate their limitations. Artificial flowers are becoming more and more a part of interior styling adding life and feeling to any room.

Just as the Christmas decorations come out as the festive season starts, we can now do the same with favourite faux flower displays as the seasons come and go.

From summer weddings to winter wreaths, faux flowers have found huge popularity in recent years for so many reasons.

An investment, yes – you do get what you pay for with artificial flowers and generally the more realistic blooms cost the most but for something that can be brought out year after year – an investment worth every penny in our opinion.

Buying a selection of Faux Flowers will mean your flowers are always in bloom and in season, never wilt or fade and will always look stunning.

A few reasons we love faux…

Faux Flowers are always in Season –The availability of many favourite fresh flowers will be short lived depending on the season. Blooms such as peonies and hydrangeas, tulips and dahlias are all very seasonal but are in demand the year round. Faux flowers can be there for you 52 weeks of the year, unaffected by seasons and always perfectly in bloom.

Faux Flowers are Pet friendly – did you know that some fresh flowers can be harmful and some, potentially deadly to pets? All types of lilies and many berries especially. This can something to bear in mind if you have inquisitive, playful pets.

Faux Flowers are often better value – Beautiful fresh flowers, as a rule can last from a week looking their best to 10 days before they are past their best. For those of us who love our homes to be filled with flowers year round this can add up.

Undoubtedly, the more realistic blooms are the more expensive however an investment which will pay off for years and give you that Floral Fix Day in day out!

There has been recent research that proves that even artificial flowers and plants will help promote that wonderful sense of wellbeing that is experienced when in the vicinity of fresh flowers. The brain tricks us that we are in the presence of nature and therefore the feel good endorphins are still released to make us feel relaxed and stress-free. There is some wonderful research undertaken by Interior Designer and Biophilia specialist Oliver Heath all about this effect we experience – you read all about it here.

We have been fortunate enough to work with some local companies over the past few years supplying and installing some stunning features within office and retail space.

So, there are many reasons to love Faux Flowers, but this does not mean we are going to ditch the fresh anytime soon. There is still something very magical about unwrapping a bouquet of fresh flowers.

But when you want a little bit colour and botanical warmth the year round then faux flowers really are hard to beat!

Bobby’s Beauty Arcade Installation

As a florist, one of the other aspects of working with faux I particularly like is that all the stems are the same! Sounds daft, but it is especially satisfying to know that every single stem will be in perfect condition. Moreover, there is minimal waste, no buckets of water, or temperature variations to worry about. Whilst fresh flowers are the pinnacle of top class floral design, working with faux flowers is no where near as high maintenance!

Aside from larger faux flower & plant installations, an area we are currently looking to expand into, we are also offering a small selection on our website. You can see them here and they are ready made bouquets expertly designed for you to pop straight into your favourite vessel.

We also have a small selection of loose stems at our brand Floral Concession within Bobby’s of Bournemouth right in the centre of town. Literally 3 or 4 stems will look great in a small vase at home or workplace – you can be sure to fool a few people that they are actually real!
